SewCraft lets you sew on machines from an 1872 hand crank to a factory machine that does 5,500 stitches a minute. You slide the fabric under the needle with your finger, and every machine behaves the way the real one would.

Every machine works like the real thing

The hand crank gives you three stitches for each turn of the handle, and the treadle's flywheel keeps going for a moment after your feet stop. The little 1930s portable only sews straight, but it sews a beautiful straight line. Stop with the needle down and you can turn the fabric for a sharp corner, just as you would at home.

Today's stitch

Every day there's a new chalk outline, and everybody in the world gets the same one. Sew round it as neatly as you can and you'll get a score and up to three stars, plus a streak if you come back tomorrow. When you share your result, nobody finds out the shape until they've had a go themselves.

If you've never sewn before

The sewing school has five short lessons that take about a minute each. You'll sew your first seam and turn a corner, make longer stitches, zigzag, let the computerized machine sew a row of hearts, and follow a chalk line with the feed dogs down.

Your name, a photo, a little video

Type a name and SewCraft chalks the letters onto the fabric for you to sew round, or pick a photo of your dog and it finds the outline. Anything you sew can become a time-lapse video of it being made, stitch by stitch, with the sound of the machine.

There's no account and there are no ads. Nothing you make leaves your phone unless you decide to share it.
