How do I sew?
Put a finger on the fabric and slide it under the needle, then use the machine's own drive. You press the pedal and slide up it to go faster, hold the treadle down, turn the handle, or press Start on the computerized machine. Two fingers turn the fabric round, and for a sharp corner you stop with the needle down and turn the fabric round it.
I've never sewn before. Where do I start?
The sewing school! It has five short lessons, and each one takes about a minute at a real machine: your first seam, longer stitches, zigzag, fancy stitches, and sewing along a chalk line. A note card tells you what to do and a yellow ring shows you where, and each step moves on by itself once you've done it. You'll find it on the home screen while you're working through it, and in Settings (under How to sew) for good.
What's today's stitch?
It's a chalk outline that's the same for everybody that day. You sew it on the computerized machine with the feed dogs down, so the needle follows wherever you move the fabric, and the clock starts on your first stitch. Tap "I'm done" to see how you did. If you do it on days in a row you'll build a streak, and a day counts as long as you get at least one star. A new outline appears at midnight, wherever you are.
How do I sew my name, or a photo?
On the home screen, tap "Sew your name or a photo". You can type up to twelve letters, or pick a photo of something that stands out from its background, and then tap "Sew it".
How do I make a video?
While you're sewing, tap the "…" button and choose "Make a video". When it's ready, the share sheet opens so you can save it or post it straight away.
Where's the thing I sewed?
Everything you sew is saved when you leave the machine, and you'll find it under "Your makes" on the home screen. If you touch and hold one, you can rename it or delete it.
Something's gone wrong.
Open Settings with the gear on the home screen and tap "Send a problem report". It gathers up the app's recent log, your device and iOS version, and any crash reports your phone has kept for SewCraft, and then you can email them to us. Nothing is sent unless you send it yourself.
There's no sound, or it doesn't vibrate.
Check that Machine sounds and Vibration are switched on in Settings, and that your phone isn't on silent with the volume down. iPads don't vibrate, so on an iPad you'll only get the sound.
